Good start, but basically you need two main things:
Specular - [Tut] Using specular in C4D [Tut]
Ambient Occlusion - Ctrl + B > Effect > Ambient Occlusion. Makes everything look 20 times better.
In addition to that I'd really try to tone down that gradient and really try to stick to a solid color scheme for the time being.

I like it, as you can see from mine I like simple things. I would choose different colours to be fair, it would look a bit better.

Adding on to what noam said, I think you could also change the colours and make it all one colour instead of various shades of pink/purple. It's a great start and very nice for a first

The first one is pretty neat but it needs better lighting and color choices on the dimensions.
