Is luring/scamming in RS against the law?

First of all luring is not against Runescapes rules, it is only frowned upon. You cannot be banned or muted, since the player entered the dangerous area on their own free will.

Scamming on the other hand is against the rules...

But i wouldn't say you could get in trouble with the law for either.

 

The way it has been explained to me is that people that get lured are able to be lured of their own free will because of their greed (they expect to gain something for nothing, or something easily, etc.). You could say that is similar to certain scams, but it has more artistry to it.

 

Luring is not against the rules scamming is against the rules though.

and bang still no hat, gone, but he posts this, he made the mistake of transferring the $1 and it is against the law in australia to "steal money" we made a deal and ive got all the proof here and you owe me $1950...

 

Yes, but no money was stolen. What he "stole" was runescape items, and runescape items by law DO NOT BELONG TO ANY INDIVIDUAL but to JAGEX LTD.

It's pretty obvious Saif scammed the phat.

Yeah, I always thought this. However, someone charged back on me for a large amount on Paypal. Long story short, I was advised by someone that I could report it to the ic3 if I had enough proof.

They said their friend managed to get what was scammed and extra, and the scammer did some hours. The scammed amount was over $300. I was told that ic3 only looks at cases that have a high value scam. You would need more than enough proof though. This happened about a year ago.

I've never did this, never bothered with it. So I can't tell if it's true or not. However, I wouldn't take the risk, especially if they had my name. If what sim says is true, and if he takes the right approach, you would get in pretty big trouble.

 

Luring isn't even against RS rules, so its not against the law. On top of that, RS rules =/= law.

 

The only person that would be able to sue you for anything RS related like that would be jagex, for it is their sole right and property and we are just borrowing it.

Look at how many people get away with Pirating Music, Videos, etc. over the web that get away with it.

Even if it was illegal, whose going to really get caught for it..?

 

No the police wouldn't care about someone losing there virtual item.

I remember watchin this news report a few years back, about this kid scammin his friend a h'ween mask... and the guy who scammed got sentenced to community service [was in australia]

I doubt it, if some 12 year olds are stupid to lose their banks on a game its nothing illegal

 

It is against Jagex in-game rules, but not against the law.
