EP is the "earned potential"; the more you have, the more chance you have of getting a better item as a pvp drop. This is essential to making money with the "26k trick"- for that, view Burdock's guide
here.
Now it's quite simple really- stand in a Hotspot (indicated by the Flaming skull) while risking at least 75k and your EP will go up. However,
it takes a long time; about 2 hours to get to 100 I believe, so Ide advise you AFK it. To AFK it, put the fat end of a screwdriver on your left or right arrow key so your screen keeps spinning around and around. This should prevent you from logging out, providing that your dog doesn't come knock it off. A rock could also work.

My keyboard sucks, i know.
AFK'ing is hard though sometimes, since so many nerds are on the lookout for us. Therefore, another way is to just watch a movie/browze/do something else while watching your screen. In that case, do this:
If you choose to do it the fair way and not AFK, or you just don't want to cry about 75k, then be it. However, note that you WILL very likely die whilelist getting 100EP, possibly even 2 - 3 times. You WILL make this money back though, so don't cry. The rate of death is quite disturbing though since a LOT of people happen to hunt us down in P2P, so imo, it's nice if you're doing something else but still be able to watch your screen at the same time. Reducing the RS window size and watching a video beside it works great.
To redeem the new PVP drops such as the God icons and statuettes, bring them to Mandrith's brother in front of Lumbridge Castle. He looks like Mandrith and is right by the stairs; you won't miss him.
Method 1:
To sum it up, run to that spot with all your stuff and stay there for about 2 hours or so. It's a long wait, but worth it. Don't get impatient- always wait til you're full of EP before you start doing the trick.
Btw, Ring of life will save your ass plenty.
If you can't find the spot....
Method 2
This method ensures that you don't get killed by someone while you're afk, but will cost you about 375k for every 100 EP. However, it guarentees that you will live it through and you won't die since no one can attack you. I find this one most reliable, since would you rather die like 10 times (yes, it's possible) with 78k or never die and spend 375? You WILL make this money back, so don't fright.
Basically, you get a [trustworthy] friend to wind bolt you and you wind bolt back, while leaving something on your arrow key so you don't log. This will prevent anyone from attacking. However, strike spells, using noob weapons, etc etc. do NOT work; after a while others can pj. You must use wind bolt or up for this to work.

The only reason you would justify this though is if you were actually going to AFK and head to the gym. If you aren't going to AFK don't bother..
Oh btw there is a calculation error, it's 1250 chaos runes per hour; 2.5k chaos runes every EP set.
If you want more xp, try using wind wave. This costs about 750k for 100 EP, but you make it back, and get XP rivaling to alching.
Method 3

If you get attacked, do NOT run. Just die with protect item on. If you run, they will smite and as you eat, your prayer will be drained to 0, making you lose your scimmy.
Otherwise, if you die you'll lose not even 5k and they will have wasted their time.
You can also run north past the gate to the more northern giants if there is already someone else there. Btw, do NOT try pking here... the ice guys will PJ you and make it impossible.
You can sorta afk here for like 20 mins, but after when they stop attacking, you'll have to run north 3 wildy lvls down/up and back to make them aggressive again.
They do drop gold charms most of the time, and big bones from the giants. I wouldn't advise picking up the bones since it's waste of time. Gold charms, up to you. I really find it pointless since you're prepared to die and lose them anyways, but go for it if you're desperate.
You could always use this gear also..:

In this case, if a mage comes you're almost guaranteed to get away with your huge mage def, since if you wore the above gear you're pretty much screwed by them..
Or an easy way is to just die after your trip instead of running.
Note: this is a LOT easier in a
bounty hunter world, since your target will most likely not wander into lvl46 wild to find his/her target

and less people wander deep wild.
Method 4

This is the gear.
For the inventory, bring:
1 Teleport tab
1 Combat/strength potion
Food that heals 140hp alltogether (for 70 def- higher def needs less). a Good choice would be 7 sharks or 8 monkfish.
What we do here is hunt the green dragons in deep wild, while earning about 250k an hour, and using protect item to keep your karil's skirt in case you actually die.
The easiest way is to use the wilderness portals. To do this, run straight north to lvl13 wild from Edgeville and then a little east until you see the portal. Keep using the portal until you reach the dragons in lvl35 wild.
If you don't know how to get to the portal north of Edge... :
If you get attacked, try to run and log out and turn on protect item.
After your trip, just use the portals until you hit somewhere under lvl20 wild and tele out (keeping prot item while you do this, in case you run into a team).
Method 5
Same as method 3, but in the wilderness fire giant dungeon instead- less people and better monsters.
again, 4-item it.
Results
This is what I got in a day and an half. Note that I wasn't so lucky and didn't get a good drop everytime, and the best item I got was an armadyl statuette (750k, versus Zaros which is best with 5m).
