Sythe programming contests?
What do you programmers think? Would you guys want to organize some sort of contests. I think it would be a good way to increase our programming skills.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
Sure, but what kind of contests? Like who can develop the fastest and most powerful ocr? Or who can make an efficient program for decoding fractals into raw, tangible data?
Or rather would it be more simplistic as, who can make the most powerful/fastest/neatly coded irc client?

It would probably be simpler things, like you mentioned possibly an irc client. I'm assuming not too many people here will be familiar with ocr or fractals.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
The thing to remember about OCR's and Fractal Based graphics decryption, is to remember, everything can be broken down into simplistic steps.
Example, if I wanted to make an OCR, first, gather a simple database of fonts and handwriting styles. You then create a pixel based comparison. Microsoft has created basic OCR api's if you know where to look (example: tablet PC's handwriting detection) .
Programming isn't all about who knows the most code, its about learning proper habits and being able to logically step your way through the tasks.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
May I suggest, as a programmer, to make a good effecient decrypter and encrypter for data sent.
packets, algoritms, data ect.

You should all code a Sythe application for the iPhone/iPod.

I also agree with this, Sythe really needs an
iPhone/Android/Blackberry app, the current
mobile app is kind of faulty.

Easy to do. Flash CS5 allows you to compile into a iphone app for deployment into the App Store.

I honestly think that I'd be more active if
I had a Sythe application or an actual working
mobile version on my Blackberry. I mean, I'm
usually never home until late at night, and
having an application would help not just me,
but many other users stay active.

Didn't apple reject any apps that aren't coded in objective c using the standard sdk?
There was a programming contest here a while back (a bit more then a year ago), but in the end it didn't work out and the entries weren't judged. If there are enough people who want another one, I think it would be fair to give it another try.

I'm pretty sure that's the case. That's why you're required to use a mac (so you can use their SDK).
You can always submit the app tocydia though.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
Make a minesweeper field maker. Save it as a bunch of txts. Fastest program to solve like 100,000 of them wins.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
It would be okay if the organizers weren't incompetent. I have seen this attempted on other sites and the criteria was just ridiculous.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
I have developed a program that need to be written. it is a monumental project and requires many programmers. Maybe we can work it out so that you have a contest and I have the programm. There is also some pay involved. This is not a scam or hack or any weird thing either. feel free to ask questions. all programmers who are doing it now sign an nda.

Re: Sythe programming contests?
I would endorse a programming contest, however, I can't really think of anything at the moment, and I don't have time to manage it.
