Default Starting C++

So I'm taking a computer science class that focuses mainly on programming in C++. I didn't know this when I started the class, but not that I'm in it I am going to try and stick it out and learn a little bit about programming. Basically, I'm trying to get a few tips or hints that will help me out in the weeks to come. We just started the programming today, so I don't really even know the basics.

So what hints or tips can you give me?

Do you learn best by reading or by doing?

(If reading do you prefer reading on a computer screen or in paper form?)

As a beginner, you should start with basics. You can get the best tutorial for C++ from its basics up to the newest features of ANSI-C++ at:

But don't copy things from web. This way You won't remember most parts of it.
Try to write it on your own.
