Default Exploding Head Syndrome

(Your head doesn't actually explode lol)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome

Does anyone here have this or know a way to get rid of it?

Last night I went to sleep and at 2 in the morning woke up to a slow motion explosion type sound, the same thing happened to me a month ago so I thought it would go away and went back to bed. One hour later I woke up to an explosion and the sound of my desk shaking all over the place. The sound felt so real that I thought it actually happened at the moment.

I usually just wake up and when my eyes are closed I hear the sound. It literally scares the hell out of me. I could feel my heart pounding and my hands were shaking uncontrollably. I was really terrible. I turned on some TV to lighten the fear, I fell asleep and ten minutes later woke up again to the sound of someone whispering something in my ear, I could hear his voice so clearly it was unbelievable, it literally felt like someone was next to me whispering. I fell asleep until morning after that.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

I'm absolutely sure that nobody here is qualified to answer your question.
If I were you, O would seek professional help on this one. Maybe from a neurologist or psychologist?
That's e best advice that you could get here.

I've heard of this syndrome as a friend of mine had it. There really isn't a way to stop it as its a subconscious event that you cant change. It is documented to be caused by a few things more commonly high patterns of stress or fear of something. The best thing to possibly do is to take non habit forming sleep medication(SO NO TYLENOL PM) and watch tv as you go to sleep. My friend has told me its the only thing that helps.

Good luck with your syndrome and i would suggest speaking to a psychiatrist about this as it would be something subconsciously effecting you.

I have, what I believe, is a mild form of this. I'll fall asleep and every now and then, some jolt as a result of me almost entering REM sleep wakes me up and freaks the shit out of me. I guess I can relate, although its not always a boom or pop, it can be like a face or something.

I've gotten this all the time when I'm by myself in a really quiet area, what I do is "drown out the noise" say with the TV or some torrented movies, leave some music on while you're trying to sleep as it gives you something to listen to.

If I'm trying to sleep and it's really bad, sometimes what I do is just think about other things, you get your mind sidetracked on thinking it can also help to drown out the noise. For me though if I start thinking about the noise, then it starts to amplify, sometimes so bad I jump out of bed lol. But yeah, drown out the noise with music/tv, or think about stuff so you don't think about the noise.

Edit: I've managed to not get it in a while, months infact. What I did was place a fan in my room and run it on low, keeps my head cool while I'm asleep and the noise prevents any ringing.
