Confused with the movie "Inception"
So, I watched it the other day. And I barely understood it. I got the part where going into different levels or dreams and all, but the whole movie overall was just confusing! Someone mind telling me what was up about it? Clear some confusion.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
Go to Google, search "Inception", go to IMBD or the Wiki page and read the plot, it should clear things up for you.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
Well. Inception according to the movie means to plant an idea in someone else's mind. That was the point of the movie, to plant in idea in the mind of the son.
A level is just a dream and importing the subject into the dream with the use of their device. But if in that dream you use another device to create another dream. That creates another level.
The problem with all the levels and dreaming, is it becomes very hard to tell when you are awake and when you are dreaming. Which is why each person had a totem. The idea of the totem came from the main character's wife.
Well the wife believed that she was still in a dream thought she was in real life and killed herself. Turns out the main character was really the one that planted the idea that she was still in a dream. With Inception.
After she commits suicide the police think he is the one that killed her. So he runs. A man comes to him with a job and tells him if he completes the job, the charges of killing his wife will be erased.
The job is inception. They must plant the idea to destroy a company, into the mind of a Son who is about to inherit the company when his father dies. Unfortunately the Son has been trained to fight off such intruders inside his dreams, and the whole main cast must deal with that as they try to complete the job.
I know I just explained all of that backwards, but yeah. Hopefully you understand it all now. Let me know if I missed something.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
I watched this movie and every girl there didn't understand a damned thing. Pissed me off them asking questions the whole time.
Personally, I really enjoyed it. A lot of action and an interesting love story, all within a larger plot about our subconcious. In my own opinion, I thought it got into the whole "What is real? Is reality what we make of it?" sort of thing. Kind of the same message you get from the Matrix.
So, not to sound like a dick, but this was a great movie and if you think otherwise you aren;t thinking at all.
Hmm, I still sounded like a dick there...o well, I stand by it.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
I thought it was pretty confusing too. I then decided to see it for a second time in the theater. I would suggest doing this. It helped clear up a lot of the confusing questions I had.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
Well, pretty much everything is explained in the first third of the movie. Pay attention during the dialogue scenes in the movie and you'll understand what's going on. And think a little bit as well! That's what I liked about this movie, it's not just about letting information sink in, it makes you think.
Great movie, 10/10 from me.

Re: Confused with the movie "Inception"
I love this movie and i'm hooked to it @@; can't stop thinking about it.
But the seemingly apparent view of the story is as follows
Leo's inception:
Leo enters a dream with his accomplices and the target (the son) in order to perform Inception (plant an idea) into the target's mind.
>
they enter deeper into the dream world thru the dream within a dream method. because when you go deeper into a dream, your mind is more vulnerable and it's easier to for your mind to be manipulated
>
They manages to change the target's mind (Inception point)
>
mission accomplished and the whole team (apart from Leo and the Japanese guy coz they end up dying and goes to the limbo) comes back to reality due to the "kick"(the freefall motion that would knock them up from a deeper layer of dream to a previous dream)
>
However Leo dies as his wife kills him and falls into Limbo(where ppl who dies in a dream would end up ).
>
Leo meets one of his accomplice in the Limbo(the old jap guy. He looks ancient because compared to the upper layers of dream, the time in limbo is much much faster. and since the jap guy dies b4 Leo, he entered the limbo before him and ages faster)
>
Leo persuades the old jap guy to kill him and suicide to get out of limbo (the only way to get out of limbo) into reality.
>
Leo wakes up on the plane and everyone's happy
But it's unclear whether Leo really comes back to the reality because
1. the spinning top at the end of the movie doesnt come to a definite stop which could mean that Leo's still stuck in another layer of the dream
2. everything happening on the reality level went by so amazingly smooth that it seems surreal. eg. when Leo was on the run from the men chasing him and he got stuck in a really narrow alleyway and then when he finaly got out, the Jap guy randomly turns up in a car and saves him. .. thats._. too coincidental right.. feels like something that wud've happend in a dream
I think Nolan made this movie to be open to many interpretations. One of my friend thinks its the grandpa's inception and some thinks its Mol's inception.@@ but just like the "Leo's Inception version that i jst stated on the top", all these interpretations have flaws and theories that can't be explained. So in some ways, this movie is kinda like a Penrose Staircase optical illusion. There is no absolute correct intepretation.

No actually, he not. In fact- the ending isn't even left for interpretation.
Throughout the film we see Leo's character wearing his wedding ring EXCLUSIVELY in dream sequences, while in reality he does NOT have his ring on. This acts as a 'totem' for the audience- where we are able to identify dreams from actuality.
In the last sequence, we see him spin his totem, and we also realize he is not wearing a ring- therefore he is not dreaming... and the fade-out before his top stops spinning is simply there to leave the audience in awe and perhaps even unsatisfied. Christopher Nolan is known for his prestigious endings.
