[MUST SEE] All-time Favourites & The Bigger Picture [44 MOVIES w/RATINGS]

There are a couple of good movies on there, but the majority are overwhelmingly bad. Star Wars prequel movie? Really?

Feel free to let me know which other movies you think shouldn't be on the list, but the Star Wars episode that I listed was one of the most anticipated movies of all time. Decades in the work, the Star Wars series made viewers beg the question of "Who is Darth Vader?"

Star Wars Episode III explained everything, and tied up all loose ends from the original trilogy, as well as it's own.

Emperor Nero, which movies do you think should make the next list?

Tying up loose ends doesn't make it a good film. Shoddy acting coupled with poor writing and cardboard characters made it a terrible movie.

There Will Be Blood, Perfect Blue, The Usual Suspects, Cool Hand Luke, Let The Right One In, El Topo, The Holy Mountain, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, The Exterminating Angel, most of the Luis Bunel films.

[MUST SEE] All-time Favourites & The Bigger Picture [44 MOVIES w/RATINGS]

Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel Jackson, Christopher Lee... these are all highly gifted actors, and I think they did a great job throughout the prequel trilogy.

The writing was great. The story line was exciting. The characters were easy to sympathize with and relate to.

So I'm not exactly sure why you're hating on the movie, or my list for that matter, but let's move on to the list that you've provided of your own favourites.

There Will Be Blood was great besides the fact that Paul Anderson made a two-hour movie feel like double that in real time. Daniel Day-Lewis is a champ, so I will move on. The Usual Suspects was a neat movie, and I do so love a plot twist. Maybe I'll give it another watch and put it on the next list! A Clockwork Orange might be the worst movie ever created, imo. I've had this conversation about a dozen times with a dozen different people and it always ends the same way: agree to disagree.

Other than those, I don't really know much about the other movies on your list. Quite clearly, you favour older movies, and as someone who has a collection of over 600 movies, I don't tend to like most movies that came out before ~2000. Of course there are exceptions, but generally speaking, that's my preference.

Exterminating Angels looks like it was trying to achieve what only "Black Swan (2010)" could. Dr. Strangelove is old, corny, and honestly, not relevant. If you want something that has entertainment value, and is full of hidden meanings, etc... then take a look at "Iron Sky (2012)." Iron Sky was hilarious, stupid, but engaging. It definitely made reference to almost every Hollywood pun there is.

El Topo (1970), The Holy Mountain (1973), Cool Hand Luke (1967)... are you seeing what I'm seeing? Old "classics" that if they were made today (for the first time), I don't think anyone would pay to watch them. You have a love for old movies, and an unexplained hate for modern cinema.

Perfect Blue (1997), though I haven't seen it, looks like a trashy adult anime movie, and will not be something that I waste my time on. If I'm going to be watching a cartoon-like movie, it better be a Disney movie with great songs, family fun, and a moral lesson to be learned.

"Let the Right One In" looks promising, so I will find some time to watch it and get back to you.

Thank you for the movie suggestions, and let me know of any modern or classic films that might be good to add to my next list.

    Cheers!

The Star Wars prequels were a disservice to the series. They added nothing to the story, were drawn out entirely too long, and were poorly written. You can have the best actor in the world and put him or her into a film with poor direction and terrible writing and they will do a horrendous job. Actors can't make a bad script good or poor directing better. The simple fact that you can argue that the prequel films are even worthy of consideration for any list besides worst films shows what you know about cinema as a whole.

I don't hate modern cinema. Aronofsky was greatly influenced by Satoshi Kon, who directed Perfect Blue which is a great thriller that looks at numerous subjects of psyche and always will keep you guessing.

Exterminating Angel wasn't trying to do anything like Black Swan. Black Swan was a film about identity, perception, and crisis. Exterminating Angel is a satire and a great piece of surrealism.

Dr. Strangelove is the perfect example of a satire that isn't farcical or delves into the real of stupid. The film is one of the best ever made and isn't corny in the least. The jokes are all there to find and a lot of them are subtle. The script is layered perfectly with commentary.

Cool Hand Luke is the epitome of a great film. An amazing script paired with the beautiful acting of Mr. Newman. The only thing that really suffers is the cinematography.

You seem to be averse to decent film, have no knowledge of theory, and haven't studied the masters. Take Quarantine for example. It was a terrible remake of REC, which is a spanish film. The Run Down and Bad Boys II are terrible movies, and are a poor example what cinema is. That you mention Tarantino is a shock, as he makes decent movies. Because you have 600 movies is irrelevant really if they're all shit. I suggest you read up on some decent movies. Read some Roger Ebert for instance, while I don't entirely agree with all of his opinions he wrote himself an amazing legacy in film. Read Lynch on Lynch. Broaden your horizons to films beside summer blockbusters. Look at foreign markets and art house films that get limited release.

The $4.05 Billion that Disney paid for Lucas Film proves that the prequel trilogy has merit, substance, and the support of fans world-wide.
