Is anyone keeping up with this series and if so, what do you think of it so far?

I am! Can't believe Jamal killed off his opponent like that.

But anyways how I think of the show, I'm sorta mixed. I don't like how its completely one-sided and Americanized. Like the west "civilizing" the middle east.

He could have played it off as if Sheik died from natural causes, not entirely sure why he didn't.

I wonder Jamal's brother, Barry, is going to do once he finds this out. With all the recent events, it sounds almost like he wants to run for president.

Exactly. The Sheik was dying anyways, I dunno why he didn't just let him cough himself to death. But then again, Jamal is a psychopath. Also, I'm willing to bet the guy in change of the military is going to stage a coup later on in the series. That should be interesting if it does happen.

I actually thought he was going to die in the bathroom and then they were going to blame Jamal for the death, the thought never occurred that he would just kill him with his hands.

If you have been keeping up with the series, there are some things I would like to see your thoughts on.

    - What do you think is going to happen to Barry's gay son.
    - Do you think anything will happen with Barry and Leila (Jamal's wife), since they have history.
    - Will Jamal's daughter-inlaw tell Jamal's son about Jamal raping her? (That's a lot of Jamal's).
    - With the Sheik now dead and no one else running for president, do you think Barry will?

    I thought the same thing!

    Excellent questions -
    1) Hard to say. Usually if you're caught engaging in homosexual activities in middle eastern countries, you're usually stoned to death. Though I doubt that will happen in the show, I think he will just be forced to leave to return to America. idk

    2) Given their past history together, yes I do think the two will develop a secret sort of relationship. She's obviously unhappy with her marriage to Jamal, and Barry seems to still have feelings for her.

    3) Probably not. Firstly, if word ever got out to Jamal, she'd be gone in a heartbeat, her family killed, etc. And even if she did, it would be her words against his fathers..

    4) Someone living in the US for the past 20 years becoming an elected leader of a middle eastern country? Not a chance lol. I think the Sheik's son will run for sure though.

If you remember the first episode - Barry has a flashback to when his father and Jamal were standing in a village and Jamal was holding a gun - their father wanted Jamal to kill one of the townsmen per an attempt to groom Jamal into the ruler he was. Jamal wets his pants and runs to the car - while their dad goes to comfort Jamal, Barry walks up to the gun and pulls the trigger, killing the man.

Due to this scene, I strongly believe Barry has a sort of fetish for violence and power, inevitably increasing his drive to become a ruler.

In my opinion, Barry's persuasion to convince Jamal to hold elections is a non-direct way of asking for leadership.

I disagree with you on this point. I think Barry sacrificed his childhood innocence by killing the man in order to save his brother from having to do so, so Jamal wouldn't have it on his conscience for the rest of his life. (if you've ever watched the show "Lost", Eko did the same thing for his brother)

I don't think he's an inherently sinister person. I think the opposite actually - that he only wants whats best for his family and his for birth country.

I don't like it to be honest. FX is releasing like over 10 shows to see if they hit or miss, and most of them are misses, which downgrades their network. Best one they added is probably Fargo, but I can't imagine a season 2 for that show

Have the said anything about a season 2?

I assumed it was directly represented by the movie, which if is the case the ended it the last episode.
