Ever wondered where someone lived or what their IP was?
If you did, this guide is the ultimate guide for YOU!

Requirements:

• Email account from Yahoo! or Hotmail
• An email sent by an average user, not a company(they have protection)

*Gmail doesn't work because they have protection as well.

How to do it with Yahoo! Mail.

1. First thing you need to do if pinpoint the email you're going to investigate.


2. Then, right click the email and select "View full header."


3. A window should open up. Read through the text and scroll down until you find "X-Originating IP", then copy that IP address.


4. Now go to http://www.iplocationfinder.com/.

5. Type in the IP you previously found into the box.


Your result should be pretty approximate. My actual location isn't that far away.

How to do it with Hotmail.

1. Repeat step one in the Yahoo! Mail guide.

2. Right click the email and select "View message source."


3. Another window will pop up, look for the line that says "Received From:."


4. Take that IP and put it into http://www.iplocationfinder.com.


5. You should get the same result.

Whoops, I misspelled it. I think it's currpoints. It's when you talk with them on MSN, and then you get their IP.

I believe the program is called CurrPorts. It's a program that lists all open connections on your computer... or something like that. You can find it here.

Useful guide, but all IP locators that are free and even most that you buy are anywhere from 10-100 miles off where you actually live.

Using someones IP to get their address is definitely non-effective in most cases.

Although, IP's are good to have for checking if someone is vading, or attempting to scam / impostor (through MSN).

Very old knowledge. Also, this depends on their isp, for example someone with satellite would show they live somewhere in the mid-west u.s., dsl would give you their address sometimes, depending on their isp again.

Also, this works with any e-mail.
