I must tell you of the legacy that I have happened upon. The first stop in my travels was to visit my aunt Greta in Interlaken. For her tenth birthday, her mother gave her a Macala game filled with colored stones. In each place that the family visited, Greta made friends with a little girl or boy. She loved the Macala game; it was always a source of entertainment and also a source of pride since her mother had entrusted it to her. But soon after Greta made friends, it was always time to leave; She played with a new friend at every town that they visited. With each move, Greta would leave a little bit of her family behind. Together with each friend she would bury one of the stones from her Macala game; she promised one day to return and retrieve each of the stones. Finally, the family found a permanent home in Interlaken. Greta, content to live in one town where she felt she belonged, never went back to retrieve the stones. The Macala game has a place of honor in Greta’s library it is missing eight of the stones.
Aunt Greta has entrusted me with the names of her friends and the places where she lived as a young child. Hidden in each correspondence I send to you will be the name of the Greta's friend who can help to find the stone in a specific location. Each of her friends, should they still be alive, is a link to the specific location of each stone. She said to me, “These stones are my only legacy to you, dear Merrick moreover, these stones are precious not only in sentiment, but also in monetary value. It is my hope that you will retrieve them on your travels. This may be a dangerous journey trust no one." But of course dear Edward, I can trust you; for if I do not make it through this journey, someone else must know who to contact to find the location of these precious stones. In this letter is hidden the first contact I have for the stones. I have used that punctuation that is most like our dear friend Jane to help you discover the first person to contact. Before I begin my quest, I feel I must impart with you the location of the stones. I have a few more friends to visit before I begin; I plan to visit Paris, France Rome, Italy Barcelona, Spain Riga, Latvia Munich, Germany and Salzburg, Austria. I will write to you often. You will find clues to each of the locations in my letters to you.
