Getting an iPod Touch 2g Next week
OK, I'm getting a 2nd Generation 8GB iPod touch for my birthday next week, and I plan on jailbreaking it not long after. I believe when you get it the default Firmware version is 2.1.1, will I be able to update it to 3.1.3 so I can jailbreak it using Spirit or will my only option be to update the firmware to iOS 4?

You can always download older firmware and restore it to that. So what you would want to do it put it in restore mode by holding down the home button + power button, then you will be in restore mode in iTunes. Then hold shift and click restore, it'll prompt you for the firmware and you select it, and voila, you have an older firmware. And spirit's the easiest jailbreak so have fun with that.
PM Me when you get it, I'll help you out, I know it's a bit confusing at first.

Thanks a lot, I've jailbroken a friends iPod using Spirit so it's the one I'm most comfortable with, I just needed to be sure I can get to Firmware version 3.1.3 so I can do so.
Also, can you downgrade iTunes 9.2 to 9.0-9.1?

You have to uninstall the new version and find an old version floating around the internet.

You can read some of my Guide on it, where if I recall I explain on how you can update to the 3.1.3 Firmware.
And yes, just un-install iTunes 9.2 and find the Download somewhere on te internet.
Here you are: http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php?old_itunes=48
That is iTunes Version 9.0.

Re: Getting an iPod Touch 2g Next week
First off, I suggest not even TOUCHING iPod Touch 2Gs. Mine sucks butt, but still handles multitasking and backgrounds well in iOS 4.0. Wait for IPT4G.
Next, don't use Spirit. Don't.
My final suggestion is to download a copy of the iOS 4.0 Gold Master from your favorite torrent site, and download redsn0w 5 beta. Update your device to iOS 4.0 and select the GM as your targeted IPSW, then jailbreak. It's not hard, and it's better than having 3.1.3 when all new applications are for 4.0+. redsn0w even comes with the option to enable wallpapers and multitasking.

Thanks for your suggestions, however I'm going to stick with what I already know.
