CNC Please.. First time I've tried using masks and so on.

Well normal critique wise i would give it a 3.5/10 for the effort you put into it.
Beginner Id say a 7/10

What is wrong is:
The focal is over sharpened quite a bit, The clipmasked splatter brushes lack any real flow, text rarely goes over a focal, nice attempt at what I am guessing is c4d usage but not there fully. Besides the c4d looking stuff over the render and the splatter brushes there are no other effects. Work on your composition, try using a stock background and play around with it, try to make your focal a little bigger and try to off center it a little bit.

I couldn't really think of anywhere to put the text so I just incorporated it to part of the focal. No C4D's were used. I do agree the tag itself is rather dull.. First time I had ever used a clipping mask.

read up on some tuts and remember you don't have to put text.

To keep the color scheme of the tag i normally use the tag as the clipping mask.

Theres no blending really you need to work on that a tad.

If you know most of the features of PS/Gimp (layer styles,filters,etc) download some PSD packs from deviantart.com they are excellent for picking up effects.
