title pretty much says it all. Wondering if there is anyone on sythe that is preparing for a disaster or anything.
I personally have a stockpile on ammo, food, drinking water, other water, MRE, knives, and a couple of bug out bags.

Any advice for people who are new to this or advice in general?
Would love to keep this thread going.

These people make me laugh, the chances of a destabilizing event is slim to none and unless you are a millionaire that can afford one of the survival condos you aren't going to survive anything like a nuclear war or a dirty bomb war. Guns are the worst choice in situations like this, ammo is going to run out quickly and you are going to be left with a blunt object which is much less effective then a sword, tomahawk, or some sort of thrown weapon like an attle-attle or a spear like thing. People waste their time living in fear and that is no way to live, you might as well just kill yourself if you are going to be paranoid that there is something that is going to kill you around ever corner. I mean there is cautiousness but then there is straight out paranoia.

If the world ends, it will either be 1) unavoidable or 2) unexpected, in which case:

1) I die
2) I die

Either way, I am not affected in any substantial way. The outcomes are the same, no matter the outlook. Preparing for the inevitable is like trying to predict the future: you may get lucky 1/100 times, but it doesn't make you a prophet.

I don't think emergency preparedness is a bad thing at all.

Actually its not a bad idea at all to have some extra food,water, medical supplies, tents, and some form of protection.

Whether the "world ends," being prepared is a good idea.

It isn't bad...when you are preparing for disasters that are COMMON in your area...chances are that there will be at least one of a common situation through out your life time...

For example, in the area I just moved to...it is semi-common to have the roads overflow or be snowed in (water or snow) so to store extra drinking water and food is a common thing, but ammo and armor for a zombie apocalypse is stupid...

But preparing for anything else is stupid IMO...I mean stocking ammo and water?

Stock water and survival skills...how about a water purification system?

Learn to live on your own in the wilderness COMPLETELY and then talk about "preparedness"

I am not going to just turn over and wait to die if I am not already dead when something like this happens..but i am not going to be too paranoid over it happening..

I find it sad that people are more prepared for a zombie apocalypse (the most popular of the "lets be prepared for X" scenarios) than for a job after college..

I wouldn't say "these people" make me laugh, I'd rather be safe then sorry.
Personally, If we the people don't end up killing off each other, I think some natural disaster will happen and completely wipe out the human race.

You can survive without being a millionaire if you know how to. Guns are not the worst choice? They can protect a good amount, even without ammo if your convincing. Its not living out of fear, its more like rather be safe then sorry. I would rather be wrong in this situation.

Obviously we're doing a pretty good job on surviving considering it has been widely accepted numerous times throughout history that the "world would end" and look at us, still alive. Also, Are we talking about the world itself ending I.E all life on the planet or simply HUMAN life?

I'm not saying the world is literally going to end, like poof its going. Like economic collapse, revolution, stuff like that. Not a dumbass meteor hits us and we magically vanish...

Because there is an imminent global economic collapse or revolution. If you believe all the hype about something happening in 2012 then I feel sorry for you. People say the world is going to end all of the time, there are entire religions built on people saying the world is going to end. We are more likely to go into nuclear war than to have a world wide economic collapse or huge revolution that wouldn't be easily squashed. Why waste your life on something that has the same chances of happening as you do winning the lottery?

Even if you survive what are you going to do? You aren't going to rebuild infrastructure by hand, you aren't going to re-establish a power structure that is stable, you aren't going to remold the world.

After thinking about why would a revolution even be a world ending situation? A revolution is rebels vs. power structure, so I am not sure how a revolution is going to end the world. At least prepare for a real disaster like an earth quake, a hurricane, tornadoes, typhoons, wild fires, or a number of other things depending on where you live. Preparing for a global meltdown is silly, as Realsies said.

preparing for the end of the world is kind of pointless imo :P I'm not going to buy a bunker anywhere out of fear.

It is normal and advised to have emergency water/food/torches/radio's and all that because of natural disasters but preparing for Armageddon is just too much

I don't believe in that sort of mumbo jumbo, but I guess I'll give you an answer anyway.

I wouldn't really put much effort and money into preparation because the end of the world means that everyone dies no matter how hard you try to survive. I would do things that I wouldn't do in any other situations. I'd Conquer my fears and do all kinds of crazy stuff.

Something will happen in 2012, something very out of the norm. I don't know what yet exactly but it is coming. Don't call me crazy, I'm not saying everyones going to die or the world is going to be hit by a meteor or anything stupid like that because honestly, the meteor that they say is going to hit the earth out of all the planets in the solar system and all of the other meteorites and shit floating out there is just HIGHLY unlikely. IF this does happen though you can call me stupid in hell.
