Donations
We should be able to send donations trough PayPal as a "gift", that way the person will not be able to dispute and reclaim the money.

Just a note though...
If whoever gets the money finds themselves in a dispute, and then they win the claim and get the money back, PayPal will automatically fight any further dispute for them, and will take the side of the seller.
So if Matthew won a dispute, then started accepting paypal, he would be safe.

If so, we could ask someone to send a payment, and then claim back, and let Matthew win the dispute. After this has been done, he could allow paypal payments, and would usually get paid after all.

There's always some, "if you do this, they can't charge back" scheme - and then they get proven wrong.

Meh, that's what's written on PayPal's site on how to avoid future chargebacks:
Quote:
If a seller amicably resolves a PayPal dispute or wins a claim, is the seller covered against chargebacks?
Yes, if you amicably resolve a dispute through the Resolution Center, Paypal will protect you 100% against any future claim, chargeback or bank reversal the buyer may file for that transaction.
To be covered, however, the seller must honor agreements made with the buyer during the dispute resolution process. And, if the chargeback comes in before the dispute or claim is resolved, the seller will not be covered.
|
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...ackFAQ-outside
If Matt sets up an IPN that takes note of all the transaction information, as well as writes out an agreement, etc, and keeps track of everything being done with the money, and the buyer (donator) electronically agrees that they accept that they are giving the donation, and that they will not chargeback... and that all gets stored, and saved... if there's ever a chargeback, I'm almost positive he can avoid a chargeback :P.
And then winning one, PayPal will side with you in future claims. ^^^

Re: Donations
I would like to donate via paypal...
Why not give the option to donate via paypal only to the higher reputation members?

It looks to me like they mean future claims from that one buyer.

Re: Donations
It's been proposed many times and falls through. A majority of the site means good by donating that way, but it only takes a few to ruin it.

Re: Donations
If their PayPal is bank funded or credit card funded, they can send the payment as a gift, and call up their bank and say they didn't authorize the transaction to remove it.
Because of this is why Matthew initially removed the PayPal option, as it was too much of a hassle to keep up with. Receiving the payment, giving said user their rank, and then having to mess with all of the disputes and removing the rank/banning afterwards. Not to mention how many times they may have gotten their PayPal limited.
PayPal is such a difficult thing to use, and if your PayPal is verified, there should be no problem wire transferring the money from your PayPal to your bank, and then sending the money in the mail through Western Union, or by other means.
^^

Re: Donations
Paypal wont work, sending as gift is just a scam. When you go to claim money back, you just click Unauthorized transaction instead of Item dispute. If you click Unauthorized transaction you will get your money back. It's as easy as that...

Re: Donations
Well what you can do is once someone pays you through paypal you just transfer the money to a bank account which will take a couple days and once that happens they can't get money back.
Im assuming people charge back with donations so they get the cool pictures under their name or whatever. So you could say once they donate you will contact them within a week and by then the money will be in a bank account and irreversible.
