Expanding the forum -- Movie section...

Seeing as how we have a Music section here on Sythe.org that's very active, it seems like we should have a Movie forum as well. If we had a Movie forum, it would allow members of Sythe.org to discuss the latest movies, hear others' opinions, discuss older movies, share recommendations, and a multitude of other possibilities would be unlocked. Other benefits of creating a Movie forum include limiting off-topic posts (about movies) in other sections of the website, making Sythe a more organized website. Moreover, a Movie forum would be much appreciated

I actually like this idea. It's good to hear from others' opinions. I support, but I somehow doubt they will add this. For some reason, the staff has a grudge against adding new sections (from what I've seen).

Maybe if a good amount of users support the idea, the mods will too.

Its a no from me. The movie industry may be large and popular, but generally the only threads you will see are about certain movies, music is alot different, there is much more you can post about, of course including favourite bands or songs, but also theory, composition, discussion of genres, or showcasing your own work. Of course it is possible these things could be discussed for movies as well, but lets be honest, movies are atleast 75% hollywood. You wont find nearly as many directors on sythe as you will find musicians.

Is there anything wrong with threads pertaining to movies that are currently in theaters? It seems as if you're leaning towards user-created content more so than movies which were created in "hollywood". I don't think that's a valid reason not to have a Movie forum. As you mentioned, one can discuss movie composition, theory, discussions of genres, and he can showcase his own work... if that's true, then why not give the users who wish to do so a forum in which they can? In conclusion, whether a movie is made by a Sythe member or not isn't important when it comes to a topic as multifaceted as movies.

I don't feel an entire section is needed to discuss certain movies, general discussion is fine for that.

The Movie forum wouldn't just be used to discuss certain movies, but all of the topics that you mentioned in your previous comment.

We're not going to create sections that we know will almost never be used, like I said above, its pretty clear that they will go unused with the lack of people who are actually involved with the behind the scenes stuff and know what they're talking about.

Seeing as how this is something that could potentially affect the community, maybe we should let this go to the polls. While you may be against the idea, there may be other mods who think it's a good idea, and most importantly, other Sythe.org members who think it's a great idea.

Your use of authoritative language implied that you were speaking on behalf of all of the mods, rather than simply voicing your opinion. Since you're a mod, may you please add a poll to this thread?

Well I know for a fact that the extra sections wont be added if they'll rarely be used, theres been problems with those kinds of sections before and most of them have been taken care of. If another mod likes the idea of adding a forum for just movie discussion, then they can feel free to post, and I'll add it in a sec.

I, however totally agree with your suggestion. The movie section is one section I would be really active in. I love all movies, unless they totally suck

You talk about allowing people to talk about movies but I don't think that forum would be very active. If you take a look at the General Discussion / Off Topic, there aren't many topics regarding movie topics or discussion.

I'd agree with Matt about the differences between the music section and this. It just wouldn't be as active (I.E: Waste of space).

I think it would be a great idea,
Like your wanting to go see a movie this weekend but you don't know whats a decent movie to see,
So people in this section could like rate films ext.

I agree. I'm a movie addict and they're hundreds of movies I can think about and post about. Also, it would be good to discuss things you don't understand and some irregularities in the movie's plot.
