New Rules For Name Sales Section
There should be a rule added that prohibits people from creating "looking for ____ name" threads. The amount of spam has gotten ridiculous lately from newcomers trying to quickly increase post count by bumping and creating unnecessary "search" threads.
Also , you should make posts in the name request thread not count towards post count as people will randomly post new names and words in multiple posts instead of compiling a large list of desired names in one post.

Re: New Rules For Name Sales Section
Support. I just think the whole business involving that thread creates unnecessary chaos and confusion. People go there to raise their PC like you just said, and people just simply go there and post false information regarding names therefore misleading other people without any way to truly confirm. There was a debate earlier under the Suggestion forum about whether or not the thread should exist but look where that has gotten. I just say delete the whole sticky because its pretty pointless overall...
Edit: Also, the types of names people are selling should be enforced a tad-bit more. It think either Superman or Video had been enforcing this for a while but have seemed to stop, but now there is starting to be a flow of spam in the name sales. I have noticed people selling ridiculously stupid names to troll and raise their PC. Not only is this ridiculous, but then this gives OTHER people an excuse to raise their PC by placing low bids like 100k for example...

Re: New Rules For Name Sales Section
Yeah exactly, I totally agree with your point there as well.
Although, I think the sticky can do a great job if there are rules that go along to reinforce it. If PC isn't affected from the posts on that thread it would discourage unnecessary posts and only valuable information and requests will be posted.
The sticky is definitely a great idea because it serves multiple purposes:
1. A database for information on rare names
2. Designates which names have been sold/active/inactive.
3. Indicates Which names are unsafe to buy
4. Easier opportunity for sellers to pinpoint what user is looking for what name.
Although I should add, the sticky has lost a lot of its validity since Ritchy retired from it. I think it would be much more effective if an active name market member like you, or myself took it over and updated it frequently. Active members like us have enough knowledge and experience to know what information is phony or manipulative.

Re: New Rules For Name Sales Section
You aren't allowed to create looking for "x" name threads already, there is a sticky for that.

You aren't supposed to post looking for "x" name threads, but people do it. And spam infractions aren't given out for it either.

I don't really look in the name sales section but it looks like it needs to be moderated a little better. You should report all the threads you come across as spam, a moderator will get to them eventually going through the spam reports.

Yeah that's the reason I'm suggesting this new rule implementation. There's literally too much spam to report. But I agree, the section needs a bit more moderator attention for sure.

Also, I thought Jack Goff brought this issue up recently and then a "Requesting X Name" thread was created as a result?
EDIT:
If nobody has any objections, I will gladly update the rules in the Name Sales section to prevent the creation of these threads. I can also create a sticky for the mean time as a warning, and then begin infracted people who are continuing to break that rule.

Re: New Rules For Name Sales Section
It's simple, there is a thread where you can request names your looking for, creating own threads requesting names is spam, and should be reported.
If you report them, a moderator will infract them, and they won't do it again.
It's simple, as that, if your so active in the name sales market, report them.

It technically isn't spam because there aren't any rules against making those threads. It would be tolerable to report the threads if 50% of the threads on the section were not "spam". I know as an active member its expected that I report spam threads, but I'm not going to spend my entire day going through all of the spam threads reporting them. Most of the the time I paste a link to the sticky in threads and tell users to use the request thread instead of the new one they've created. Alot of those users disregard that because people won't follow rules unless discipline follows them or told otherwise by a moderator.
It's obviously not as simple as you say it is, because the majority of that section has turned into spam lately.

There's a sticky for it. But there's not a rule for it.
There needs to be a rule so that only selling ads can be posted in the section. Requested names must be posted in the request sticky. And there should also be a price check thread stickied so people can post price checks there and other members can offer feedback on the price of requested names. As I mentioned earlier, post count shouldn't be rewarded for posts in the price check or name request thread because that will only encourage unnecessary spam posts in those threads.

Yeah, this would probably clear up any confusion regarding the subject.

Previously there was no rule, but there is now.
I've updated the rules and also posted a temporary warning sticky to help get the warning out there. Spamming/Ignoring the stickies infractions will now be handed out to anybody who is not able to abide by the new rule.

Re: New Rules For Name Sales Section
Not a problem
Like I said before, we need the community's help in order to keep these forums cleanly moderated and to keep the sections under control. Without you bringing things like this to our attention, and without users actively reporting spam or rule-breaking threads/posts as they find them, then it is hard for us to successfully stay on top of everything. Thanks for doing your part!
