Personal support suicide posts...
http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1352124
This user sparked this, he hasn't been online since minutes after his post...
If people post a thread about killing them selves, or wanting to commit suicide and seem fairly serious about it I think we should step in for things like this.

I've tried stepping in before on those types of things and in the end the truth is that it's really none of your business. The most you can do is try and talk to them but that choice is theirs to make, as awful as that sounds. Let's just hope he's ok.

Unfortunately, there is really nobody could do about it. The only thing I could see is a mod geographically tracking their IP, then calling local authorities, but most suicide threads are not serious, so once again, nothing anybody can do about it.

It's not any of our business? Then why post it on the site at all? You're right it might be any of our business though would you rather sit there and let someone die or prevent it? The most we can do is report it to someone with real authority.

Whats wrong with the first one...? Nothing anybody can do it about it? You just listd a perfect solution, years back if you appealed a ban on rs and said you wer going to kill your self the police would show. Whether serious or not why can't we do something about it? Why take the chance?

Like I said, the most you can do is suggest they get help immediately, but that's really ALL you can do after that.
Obviously I wouldn't want them to kill themselves, but I have no control over them.

Like stated above... We can't prevent it because we don't know what's serious and what isn't.

Or we can track the ip and do something about it? Same thing jagex did years ago.

We can prevent it, we do call the authoris and let them deal with it, if we learn that is was a complete troll and that person was just a dumb mother fucker they can be punished on the site.

I'll tell you what I was told. This is a Runescape cheating site, not a clinic.
Feel free to do that though, it won't get you anywhere.

No, I don't support it. How do you know what is a joke, and what isn't?

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
As Gohan said, the most we can do is try to talk them down. I know Gohan has tried his best in situations like these and we are very limited in the things we can do about this stuff, again we are a Runescape cheating site and not a clinic. We can't track IPs to a specific house, we can track them to a general location but it isn't like an IP is going to give us a house number and chances are if we did call the authorities nothing would be done. As soon as you say "Someone posted on the forums...." they would stop listening.

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
These people post to get help. By sending authorities to their house you would most likely embarrass them a lot, contributing to their issues.

Yes, because being embarrassed is much worse then dying.

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
If you are going to post a suggestion and then get upset when everyone doesn't agree with you then you don't need to post a suggestion. That is what the suggestion section is about, people say why and why not whatever you are suggesting can or can't be a viable solution to a real problem.

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
As sad and serious as suicide posts are, they ALL must be taken with a grain of salt.
Like Gohan said, in the end this is a Runescape cheating site and not usually the first place somebody would go when they are in severe emotional distress and about to kill themselves. In fact, most people who really want to kill themselves don't tell anybody at all, in fear of being stopped or prevented.
I always try and take them seriously and talk people down from it, but often I find the blatant threats of suicide are either:
a) attention seeking
b) a troll or seriously unfunny stunt
c) somebody who seriously has nowhere to go, nobody to talk to, and feels that they identify with people online (specifically Sythe), and so they are genuinely reaching out for help.
Personally, I always try to assume its option C, just incase they are really at risk of committing suicide. But in the end, this is the wrong place to go for help. I mean the majority of people on this site are just kids themselves, not medical professionals who are licensed to deal with somebody who is in severe mental distress, and so all we can really do anyways is try and convince them not to kill themselves and to seek help immediately in somebody who can help them out.
Its sad though, I wish people didn't troll and joke about something as serious about suicide. Then we might be able to have better guidelines in place about how to deal with the suicide posts as they arise.

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
A lot of the time people say they are feeling depressed, and then they feel better again the next day. It happens to everyone, you'll feel down an then you'll feel better the next day. Even if someone was seriously considering harming or ending their lives the very most we can do is offer our support and advice to the user.

Re: Personal support suicide posts...
I' not entirely sure what you're trying to propose, but the community, particularly users who are active in the Personal Support section do 'step in' and communicate with users in that section.
Remember, this is the internet.

Embarrassment LEADS to suicide, so instead of helping them you may be contributing to their suicide. If all of your friends and family found out you tried to commit suicide how would you feel? I'd feel pretty embarrassed especially if I was trolling.
