Bumpless posts
If possible, it would be pretty solid if there were an option to post without bumping your thread.
Sometimes, you really want to reply to a customer in your thread, but can't due to the bumping rule and would have to PM or something instead. This is alright, but is problematic for two reasons:
1. Inbox size is only 500
2. It creates a perception of not really paying attention to the thread and providing services.
I know I'm not the only person having this problem and I think it would be a great solution to stuff like this: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?p=10557577

Re: Bumpless posts
I'd support this if it could be implemented easily enough when Sythe is upgraded. This would make it a lot easier for me to post on my middleman thread confirming I am talking to the two traders then taking the time to both send them a seperate pm.

Re: Bumpless posts
You can reply to someone as long as they asked you something... You can't be like "replyreplyreply" and then 2 hours after that bump your thread. And you can't reply to the same person twice right after the first reply, just edit your first reply.

Re: Bumpless posts
Its too annoying to fix a problem that can be solved in a non-technical way, in a technical way.

Not so sure how easily this might be implemented, but a good idea nonetheless

Re: Bumpless posts
But, think how that affects the way forum popularity rankings are built
When you post, it goes to the top, making it more likely for other people to respond - therefore the topic is popular
If a topic goes to the top only when the creator bumps it, it kills the system. It is impossible to distinguish a good topic from a bad one, and in the end it will increase the chance of people getting scammed
And, this is probably amazingly difficult to change, since this is at the core of vBulletein
I suggest simply returning to the old once per 24hrs without all the 'thanks' and 'added' posts - I can't wake up in the middle of the night to bump anyways

The idea is that the owner has the option of responding without bumping it. It still gets bumped from other people (unless they choose not to), and the 8 hour bumps are still allowed 8 hours after each previous bumping post.

Re: Bumpless posts
I agree that customer service is near impossible with the current bumping rule, but I don't support this suggestion.
Some threads would come back as stickies, as they have so much costumers that it would give them an advantage over small shops.
I think moderators are already working hard on their judgement and giving away chances for what they think isn't a bump, but when it's not a direct question, in my opinion, no answer should be given, to prevent giving an advantage to bigger shops.
I recently received an infraction for replying to a customer but after talking to Punjabi, I understood his point and for now, I think it shouldn't change.

Re: Bumpless posts
We could also make these not give post count.

Put the rule back to the way it was before... Double post = bump. Adding more to that is just adding more to every threads plate. It isn't making it any more fair for anyone.

Re: Bumpless posts
Personally the best way to fix all this IMO is return to the old system. I never saw an issue with it and now I get put at a disadvantage to those people who can wake up at 4AM to bump

Re: Bumpless posts
this would encourage post spamming to get like 2k posts or whatever.
If this was made it shouldn't affect your post count and should be named ghost post

Re: Bumpless posts
I'de support this, especially for big questing/skilling servies out there that have multiple people that help run the service, maybe one person wanted to reply to someone to do there order, then someone orderd right after that and then another person is to do there order, they would recieve a bumping infraction.
Full support to this

Re: Bumpless posts
Or people could just make the new bump post then delete the previous one, it's not hard and doesn't abuse post count at all.

Re: Bumpless posts
No support, needless waste of time IMO.
Most questions posted are idiotic for one. Your first post should explain everything. If people are dumb enough to ignore this and post, then you should PM them. Space isn't an issue, such PMs can be deleted.
Personally I ignore 90% of the silly questions on my thread, 'cuz that's all they are really. If it truly is a lack of information your part, just add info into your first post, or a FAQ section.
