Science Section
I propose the addition of science related section whereas there would be a place to discuss subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.. I myself could substantially contribute to such a section, and I'm sure there are others that have the understanding and/or curiosity to join in.

Re: Science Section
Science and math are something that really interest me and I enjoy quite a bit. If there would be enough interested members and activity then I'd support this.

Re: Science Section
I'm reading for Master of Science in Engineering, this would be something for me.
I'm not sure though if it would be an active section on Sythe. Probably empty.

Re: Science Section
I think this really falls under the SFA though. The SFA is for general intelligent discussion.
Though usually it is theoretical physics discussion.

Nah. SFA have high requirements and it's a section for debates mostly. Which makes it impossible to make threads about new discovery and just share general science without asking advanced things.

No, not really. Just general intelligent discussion. You just can't say stupid things, that is the general requirements for SFA. By posting in the SFA you really avoid troll because of the stricter structure of discussion.
The only way I would agree is if it was strictly policed like the SFA and it was active. Why would you want a science section full of trolls?

Re: Science Section
At the moment, this would fall under the General Discussion category.
But the idea of a science section does seem intriguing.

Maybe OP could make the thread he has in mind in SFA and see how it goes there.

Just describing my impression of SFA. I don't think this falls under SFA because of obvious reasons. A general section for science-related subjects can't be that strict.

No support. This belongs in the SFA forum, or if it still exists, the homework help section.

Re: Science Section
Only a handful of people would visit the section + off topic/something for all is perfectly fine for what you are asking, no support.

Re: Science Section
These threads belong in general discussion or SFA. SFA isn't just for debates, its for people to discuss certain topics intelligently. This could easily pertain to something such as math or science.
A separate section for these would simply not have enough activity to justify it being around. I suggest trying to post topics that you have in mind in the SFA or General Discussion areas and see how it goes.

Re: Science Section
I don't think there's enough discussion. What do you need to discuss science for?
You want to discuss controversial science? Use SFA to debate it
You want help on your science homework? Use personal support
What else is there?

I'm sure it's not for debates only. My point was, people dosen't go there usually to discuss science, instead it's general debate/topics with higher requirement.
Let me give you an example, if I made a thread about the endless universe and deep thoughs about it, I'm sure it would have it's place in SFA. But, if I made a thread about a small science subject, I'm sure it wouldn't get in SFA. And SFA is misleading place to discuss science, let's be honest.
Either way, I'm sure the section would be empty, but I'm up for discussing if this goes through.

It doesn't have to be deep universal questions. It just has to an intelligent discussion, like is .9999999 = 1? That isn't a deep question, but it is an interesting question. All you have to do is approach it intelligently and that is the only requirement. If the topic sucks, we can't help it - if it won't be discussed in the SFA or General Discussion then it won't be discussed just because it is in a science section.

I see you missed the point again. The point was, the second example wouldn't fit in SFA, more likely in general discussion, which gets me to my first point about all science related subjects can't be put in SFA.

I see you missed my point, a section isn't needed. Anything science could fit in the SFA section as long as you are discussing it in an intelligent manner. Why wouldn't you be able to discuss, say the discovery of a new species? That isn't a big new stories, but it could be discussed. You are missing the point that as long as the discussion is intelligent it can be discussed in the SFA. Something like 'Which is better Tacos or Burritos?' isn't an SFA discussion, it is general discussion. It doesn't matter though, as this argument is just derailing this thread.

I never claimed a section is needed. I´ve already given my opinion upon this.
Hmm. Science is a big field, everything from daily homeworks to new theories. I'm sure some small things, which can be interesting to the studying users wouldn't fit in SFA, because of it's poor impression/lack of interest.
And errr, have mercy on me, I'm speaking from my impression so far from the different sections, I'm a new user.
