~*PC Speed Up*~ [Very Detailed]
Hello, and welcome to my guide on speed up your computer. Before I begin, I would like to state that you will need no program, and you will NOT be downloading anything in this guide. I would also like to state that I am running a Windows 7, so if you have Windows XP, I'm sure you can follow along, but I know Vista can do all these steps.
#####Step 1: Disable Visual Effects##########
First, go to Start, find (My)Computer, Right Click on the Icon, find 'Properties'. Now, on the third page of 'System Properties', find 'Performance', and click on 'Settings'. Now that you're in 'Performance Options', on the first tab, select the third slot. It should say 'Adjust for best performance'. Now, go down and select 'Apply'.
Disabling Visual Effects will make your computer's theme and stuff look different, but it should make your computer much faster! You have complete the Step 1 on my guide!
#####Step 2: Disk Cleaner & Disk Defragmentaor##########
On this step, we will be using the programs 'Disk Cleaner', or sometimes called 'Disk Cleanup' (I will be calling it 'Disk Cleaner' in this guide) and 'Disk Defragmentator'. In the beginning of this guide I stated that you won't be downloading any programs, and you won't be; these two programs are already on your computer. Go to Start, find 'All Programs', then drop down to 'Accessories', drop down to 'System Tools', and there you will find the programs 'Disk Cleaner' and 'Disk Defragmentator'.
Disk Cleaner:
Now that you have accessed 'Disk Cleaner' the program will ask you what drive you want to clean up. Select the Drive '(C' and hit 'OK'. Now 'Disk Cleaner' should be calculating how much space will be able to be freed. As stated in the program, this could take a few minutes. Once 'Disk Cleaner' is done calculating, Check ALL the boxes in the 'Files to delete' area, but don't check the recycle bin unless you want 'Disk Cleaner' to empty your recycle bin.
Once you have selected all the files to delete, select 'OK' in the bottom right corner. The program will ask 'Are you sure you permanently want to delete these files?' hit 'Delete Files'. Now, the program should be deleting all the stuff you checked, and don't worry; none of these things you check will affect you at all. Once the program is done, it should just disappear.
Disk Defragmentator:
Before I begin, it is best to start this program when your going to bed, because this could take a long time.
Now, Open up the Program 'Disk Defragmentator' which is located in the same place you found 'Disk Cleaner'. (Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools) Once 'Disk Defragmentator' is opened, select the Disk titled '(C'. Now, go to the bottom right corner of the program and hit 'Defragment Disk'. Now, 'Disk Defragmentator' should be 'Analyzing' your Disk. This might, or might not take a while. Now after 'Disk Defragmentator' is done 'Analyzing' your drive, it should be 'Defragmentating' your Disk. Now that 'Disk Defragmentator' is 'Defragmentating' your Disk, go make a cup of coffee, take a nap, or watch television, because this can take a while.. Once your 'Disk Defragmentator' is done, and you've completed all these steps, your computer should be MUCH faster than it used to be.
#####Conclusion##########
This is the end of my guide on 'How to Speed your PC Up'. I hope you enjoyed my guide, because this took my entire morning up to make, and I tried as hard as I could to go into detail on how to do all these steps for you all. Tell me if you followed my guide and I helped you because your feedback to my guide means alot to me, and I typed every bit of this information up. Have a nice day.
