Staff Interview: Tyro
For my second interview I was fortunate to interview Tyro, an admin here on Sythe. He also used to be part of the UE and an OMM. Now enough with the boring talk lets get on to the interview.
Alright so you ready to start?
Sure
How did you find Sythe and why have you spent such a long time here?
At the time, I played Runescape with my friends, and I was looking at some related material. I stumbled upon a Runescape account market (not Sythe) where they requested a Sythe OMM to conduct the trade. I've stayed here because I find the dynamics of the site interesting and I like helping and educating people.
And when you joined Sythe did you ever think you would stay for such a long time and become admin?
Yes. I was never very serious about the site, I mostly just spent some of my free time here debating in SFA. It thus didn't interfere with the rest of my life, so I had no reason to leave. This, coupled with my honesty and relative intelligence, led me to believe I'd eventually be a leader on the site.
That's interesting, most others said it just came as time went on, when did you decide to join the UE and become an OMM?
I wrote a few guides, then coincidentally realized that I could become a UE. I thought "why not," posted the guides, and submitted my application. I became an OMM because I had a week off of school. I spent a couple of hours each day.
Recently I have seen several users including my self wonder why your post count keeps changing and why your no longer an OMM, care to enlighten us?
I removed my post count and don't take ranks or user titles because I don't like attention or intricacies. I removed my OMM rank because I've been busy with finals and didn't want someone trying to contact me when I couldn't help them.
Makes sense, while were on the topic of attention and popularity who would you say you respect and trust most here on Sythe?
Sythe.
Besides creating the site what has he done to earn your respect?
I've talked to him since I joined the site and he's always been a very kind, honest, and patient person. He has a lot of traits that I wish I represented better; he prioritizes well and understands people. I'm fully confident in his success in any field he chooses to pursue.
Although this interview isn't about Sythe himself, do you know of any plans that him or the group of admins have planned for Sythe?
No plans come to mind, but I can attest that the other administrators are very generous in their constant efforts to improve the site and help the members.
I have seen a lot of members say that admins don't do anything since a lot of it behind the scenes and users really only see the admins post in the high pardon area, could you fill us in more on what admins do?
The administrators' jobs are specific to the person. So far today I've banned a few hundred IPs and set the donator user titles. I'm updating the moderator user titles now. Outside of that, I participate in discussions for assessment of potential new staff members, and, before they're promoted, investigate each one. Pen handles most disputes. Matthew handles code stuff and donations. Sythe takes care of high priority issues and maintains the server, paying for upkeep, DDoS protection, and the like.
So there is a lot more that happens at Sythe then the usual user would see, is there anything specifically you could change here on Sythe?
I wish that the community was tighter knit. People need to learn to be more accepting of others.
I can agree it is hard for newcomers to get in the "cool kid" club. Do any of your friends in real life know that you work on Sythe or even that the site exists?
A couple of my friends know. I don't care much.
Currently are you in school or do you have a job or both?
I'm in college and I work at an insurance agency.
What are you studying in college?
Physics, psychology, and biology.
What's your major?
I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering and minoring in psychology, but nothing is set in stone.
Are you currently dating or married?
I'm in a relationship
What is a favorite child hood memory that you have?
When I was younger I liked building things. I once built a large tree fort that ended up being featured in a movie that many have probably heard of.
What is something that is on your "Bucket list" or something you wish to do before you die?
I'm going to travel around the world. I also want to live in a lighthouse for while.
Sounds like fun, well thank you for the interview, I know with college and Sythe your probably pressed for time a lot.
No problem, thank you.

Good job Bubba. Seems like a lot of us just join at first and then decide to stay later on.

I haven't tried to get right into their personal life because of privacy reasons. Every one will see this so I don't want to expose their personal life.
