User Education Survey
Hello and welcome.
I am a two-time User Educator (currently in my second stint). I've always been curious as to how the community perceives us educators. We never get any feedback, and our main work is done in the private section. You could say that this is a feedback thread. We want to know how we can improve, we want to know if we do something wrong. I'm also willing (as I'm sure other educators are as well) to answer any question you guys have about User Education in general.
Please fill out the survey, try to be constructive and give us something to work with. If you cannot fill out all the questions, please answer the ones that you can.
Questions.
Quote:
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Anything you would like to add goes below.
|
If you have a question, do not hesitate to ask it. I'm sure we'll answer it to the best of our ability and within our limits. If you have a question, please specify so early in your post, to avoid it being skimmed through. Thank you for taking the time to read this. And thank you for trying to make our section better.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
People who wanted a rank, and few who like to help others.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Most of the time, yes.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Not really much to do? Even though they do slack a bit in the "Help" section. I've seen people post threads and have to wait days for
answers.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
Yes, and I plan on finish writing guides once I get Microsoft Word on my computer, until then; other guides will have to service.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
It can be, but it's lacking people. The forums are rather dead, but they do contain a good bit of information.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
No idea.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Nothing really.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general? Users who like to help others in the community and can write good guides, but are slight (if not major) rank whores.
Do you consider them "normal users"? Yes.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image? Yes.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify. I think they should definitely do more. They should have requirements in the help forum and the PSA forum, as well as help people out more actively in other areas of the site.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not. Yes. I did apply, I was denied as my guides were too much about general things and not as helpful as they were informative.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful? Yes.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any? None other than the suggested changes above. Except for more activity requirements of the HUEs.
What are your thoughts on the current team? I think they are generally good. The new UEs will prove themselves and we shall see how they turn out. I do not think Dalpra is active enough to be a HUE.
Anything you would like to add goes below.
Good idea making this survey. :P

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
A group of people who could write a guide and then were given a book as a rank for it.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Sure.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
No. A lot of people become UE and then use the rank to gain respect and then scam with. I know you all don't do it but thats what first comes to my mind when you ask that question.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Yes. I can't think exactly what, but at the moment you write a couple guides, get the rank and that's it. You don't have to do any thing to keep and it really doesn't do much to be honest.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Sort of. I would say 80% of the guides are common knowledge or can be found on the internet. I think the guides there just get all that information and pile it down into one thread. I do find it useful sometimes though.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
I would change the whole, "write 5 guides then that's it" kinda thing. It seems like there isn't much more than that. I could be wrong but that is what it is from my knowledge.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
They are fine. I don't really see many "educating" posts from them helping others but I don't have anything against them.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
People who wanted a rank and guide writers.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Yes.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
They should be able to verify guides on the 'User submitted guides' and If someone is trying out for UE If their guides are verified they could be given a bigger chance of the rank.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I have not considered it YET.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Yes, it is helpful.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
None I can think of.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
They are doing a good job.

Just to let you know, Dalps just had a few issues logging onto Sythe. He's pretty active and HeavenLord and him both do a lot of work behind the scenes. Just going to say that for clarification.

It is my personal opinion. I did not know he had logging in issues, but I have still heard discussion of him being inactive and i believe it is true.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general? - guide writers, that's it.
Do you consider them "normal users"? yes
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image? yes
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify. they do a lot more than regular users, but need to be helping more.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
yes. It's too difficult, and the rank i wanted to be (gaming(runescape) educator) was shot down. I'd love to be a UE, but i can't write guides on computer things very well.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful? yes
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any? add me, tbh.
and gaming education.
What are your thoughts on the current team? it's fine.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
People who have made guides. I expect them to behave a little more mature than other users, however.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes, with the added requirement of conducting oneself respectably.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
They can, and they should. A majority of them do, but they should make an effort to be more involved.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Yes, I believe they should be active in more threads offering constructive comments, and providing more than just a personal opinion. That's my belief, however.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I used to be HUE in 07, but the section was removed, guides were made public, etc. I'm considering applying again once I get some good guides going. However, I don't intend on making guides that won't be used.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
It can be, but it's generally over-looked as there's not enough reasoning behind the guides. A 'how-to' section is somewhat nice, but there's too much repetition and not enough unique content. Most people will just look on Google if they need something, or want to learn something, so the guides need to focus more on creativity and less on common knowledge.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
I'd like to see the team become more active around the forums, posting constructively with well informed posts as well as citing their references and such. There's lots of threads out there, and interjecting random knowledge about the topics could prove to be helpful for passing readers.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
I don't know the current team, I just know a few of them. I've not seen much drama from them though, so that's a good thing.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
People who made a few useless guides to get a rank.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Not especially.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
No, I don't even believe that the UE section should be there. Personal opinion, don't shoot me.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
No, useless position is useless.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Not at all.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
Delete it >_>
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Indifference
^Sorry if this all seems a little harsh, but you want honesty so that's what you'll get.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general? I've always considered the UE rank to be a rank whore rank.
Do you consider them "normal users"? Not really
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image? Yes
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
I can't think of anything else they could do.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
no
Do you think the User Education section is helpful? Yes, I've found some nice guides in there. The sad thing is, most guides I found to be useful, were guides not written by UEs
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any? none
What are your thoughts on the current team? I don't really know them all that well.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
Helpful maybe know how to Google a little better than most. No offense.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Very much so.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
They are fine with just writing.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I don't like writing paragraphs.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Most of the time yes.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
More guides!
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Don't really know

Re: User Education Survey
To anyone filling out this survey: before you begin to criticize the UE in any way, make sure you can answer "What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?"
If you can't think of any way to reform the UE, then there is absolutely no reason to be criticizing the way it's currently operated. That being said, we are definitely open to constructive criticism.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
People looking for a free rank. With the general exception of xeleration.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Depends. What do you consider to define NORMAL?
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Some do, the rest are just like yay free ranks11!!
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
I don't see half of them doing anything except commenting on guides. Which yeah, great for the section. Purpose in general? Absolutely nothing. They're basically tipping off a guy on how to obtain this free rank.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I considered applying about 5 minutes ago until I heard hahanerd45 was on the team.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
The guide section isn't. 99% of the guides you could find in a google search, first page. Google is easier to search than sythe.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
Don't make specific ranks for them? What is the general purpose of having a rank for this? You should make a runescape rank as well for people who play runescape. It'd be just as useful.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Hahanerd45 should be replaced with cosrob97

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
I really don't notice them.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Completely.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
There has been really good times when most of the team ended up being promoted to staff and there has been some bad times where most of the team has been banned. Right now I haven't really noticed them doing anything special really.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Of course they could. Helping and educating users can be taken very far and I haven't noticed what they have been doing recently so I really can not say where and if they are lacking.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I have been a UE twice now and there are some good times but there is also drama.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
It can be.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
I don't know how its working right now, but while I was in it I spearheaded many changes to its internal working.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
I don't notice them.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
Not very well.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Yes.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Usually not.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Yes, as far as I recall, the checklists forced people to boost their activity. In addition, as UE's, the HUE's should be expected to complete the checklist along with the rest of the team to set a good example.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
No, although I was once a UE via nomination.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
No, I think that the vast majority of guides are written by people who just want a rank, rather then people who actually have worthwhile knowledge to contribute.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
I really think it should be removed.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
No opinion.
Anything you would like to add goes below.
Other then HUE's completing the checklist, or (ideally) the UE section being removed altogether, that's all.

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
Much better now then they were a month - 2 months ago with all the bans.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Pretty much
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
Much better now. Generally yes, 60 on a scale of 100.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
Just try to be as active and helpful as possible
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I've thought about it, but never take the time to get good guide ideas.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Somewhat
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
Just try to be as helpful as possible
What are your thoughts on the current team?
Pretty decent group of users, i talk with many of them

Re: User Education Survey
How do you perceive User Educators in general?
They're okay.
Do you consider them "normal users"?
Not really, they have a rank so it makes them look better. I fall victim to that.
Do you think the User Educators represent a positive image?
90% of the time.
Do you think they should do more? If so, specify.
No, they're doing OK.
Have you ever considered applying/applied before? If yes to the former, please tell use why you did not.
I was going to, but I'm already basically a UE on another site, and thought it would be too much for me to handle.
Do you think the User Education section is helpful?
Some of the guides are crap, but some of them are pretty useful.
What changes would you like made to User Education, if any?
Nothing.
What are your thoughts on the current team?
They're fine.
